In 2022, REPRESENTATIVE DATHAN was endorsed by:
a word from state representative lucy dathan
My name is Lucy Dathan and I am a mother of three children. I live in Silvermine with my husband, Matt, our children, and our two beloved dogs, Tilly and Poppy. I am eager to bring my 25 + years of finance and accounting experience back to Hartford for a third term. To learn more about me, click below.
The last three years representing Connecticut’s 142nd District have been nothing short of amazing. I have the pleasure of serving as Vice Chair on the Appropriations and serve on the Human Services Committee and Insurance & Real Estate Committees. I hope to return to these appointments because while we've made good headway, there is so much work left to be done.
The next state legislature session is going to be a vital one. As our state faces new challenges coming both from federal decisions on women's reproductive health as well as the financial troubles with the implementation of our new infrastructure projects. It is no secret that we have serious issues that need to be resolved immediately.
Personally, I am focused on:
Connecticut is indeed at a crossroads, but I am excited to move forward together to rebuild our great state. We need strategic thinkers in Hartford who can produce a comprehensive, creative, and stable vision for our future. I have spent my business career as a CFO helping technology companies think strategically to ensure all stakeholders work efficiently and collaboratively, and these are skills I have applied in Hartford since 2019. I plan to continue to do so if given the opportunity and privilege to represent the 142nd District again through 2024.

Personally, I am focused on:
- Maintaining our balanced budget to help build a long-term, strategic plan for Connecticut to address our long term pension liabilities and move us away from a reactionary two-year budget process;
- Ensuring that schools are well funded, and that every student has access to the best education;
- Modernizing Connecticut’s transportation system, both rail and road; and
- Attracting businesses to Connecticut while retaining talent from some of the nation’s top universities based here in Connecticut.

AppropriationsI serve as Vice Chair of Appropriations sitting on all sub committees with a focus on agency sub committees. Appropriations is the spending side of the State’s annual $24B budget. As a CFO and a CPA, I have scrutinized the financial picture of companies both on a high level as well as on a detailed and thorough basis. This has informed my approach of our State Budget these last two years, extensively examining each state agency’s budget line by line. |
Human services I take seriously my duty to ensure that the services provided by the state for its residents are applied correctly I have strengthened and renewed my dedication to these efforts. It is crucial that our government supports us during this time of recovery. Since my term began, I have sat on the Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council (MAPOC), which works to ensure the effective implementation of Medicare for Connecticut residents. |
Insurance & Real EstateWhen I door knock, the devastating cost of insurance and prescription drugs is a heartbreaking story I hear over and over again. As a member of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, I have been able to make a commitment on behalf of all New Canaan and Norwalk residents to increase access to health care, mental health parity, ending surprise billing, and removing barriers to affordable and comprehensive care a reality. |
