Actions speak louder than words, and my record speaks volumes about what I stand for, and my commitment to these values. I invite you to learn more about my policy positions below, and would also recommend looking at my State Representative page on the House Democrats government website.

healthcare

I believe in affordable, accessible, quality healthcare that meets the needs of all Connecticut residents. That means having a public option for those who don’t have access to a private healthcare plan, which is especially important during a pandemic. As member of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, I am committed to sponsoring legislation that ensures this.

I have been a defender of health equity within the state, and have sponsored multiple bills that support women’s reproductive health, such as requiring public schools to provide free feminine hygiene products to students.

Most recently, I worked on and spoke to two bills during the long session which provides protections for women coming to connecticut to receive reproductive or gender affirming health care as well as
extending insurance coverage for breast and ovarian cancer screenings.

Furthermore, I continue to
fight for mental health parity by taking initiative on establish a fund to help families pay for children's medication or treatment that is not covered by insurance. Learn more about my healthcare positions here.

MOVING connecticut Forward

Given my 25 years experience in various types of business across the globe, I am dedicated to offering my knowledge to revitalize Connecticut’s economy. From the beginning, I have been a staunch defender of small businesses, working to attract them and make their operations easier. I have fought to eliminate the business entity tax and most recently established the JobsCT tax rebate program where companies may earn rebates against insurance premiums for creating jobs. I worked to introduce a first-of-its-kind workforce training authority to guarantee Connecticut has the best trained workforce.

I am committed to improving Connecticut’s crumbling infrastructure and lacking public transportation, which directly impact the economy and efficiency of the state. We have made strides in furthering our public transportation networks in Connecticut by offering free bus service for the year. My seat on the Appropriations Committee requires my financial reasoning. I have spent extensive hours examining each state agency’s budget on a line by line basis. I am a proven fiscal leader in the House, and back these virtues with data analytical skills.

Education

Despite the fact the state of Connecticut is home to some of the country’s best schools, the overall national standing of our public education system is slipping, and we need to ensure that our kids continue to receive a quality education. In Norwalk, we need to ensure that our funding continues to grow. I have been a proponent of healthy school start times, allowing older students to sleep, start school later and more in line with their natural circadian rhythms, and operate at maximum productivity.

I believe that our 2019 bill was a good start in teaching African American and Puerto Rican Studies but our c
urricula should undergo thoughtful reconsideration to provide our students with a broader sense of United States history. We must continue to value special education programs, so students who need extra help have the tools to succeed. I am very proud to have been an instrumental part in the securing of over $150 million for the construction of the new high school in Norwalk.

Finally, I plan to work towards making
tuition at community colleges across the state debt free, so that anyone who wants to attain a college degree does not need to be drowned in debt for years to come.
In 2019, I sponsored a School Recess Bill that provided districts the option to offer up to 50 minutes of unstructured play time to elementary school children up to grade 5.  This offering gives children creative time to build friendships, work together and solve problems.

Jobs & Economy

I was delighted to be appointed Vice Chair to the Appropriations Committee, which focuses on the spending side of our annual $24B state budget.  As a former CFO and a CPA, I have been able to look at the financial picture of companies both on a high level as well as on the detail line item.  This approach is no different than how I have approached our State Budget. I have spent extensive hours in 2021 and 2022 examining each state agency’s budget on a line by line basis.

Every committee member is assigned three subcommittees; my subcommittees are Department of Economic Community Development, Transportation, and Legislative.  Not only have I been following my subcommittees, I have also attended each agency’s presentations so I can fully understand the details of our state spending.
I believe that our economy can only move forward if people can easily move around our state, which requires us to address our crumbling infrastructure.

transportation + Infrastructure

Connecticut has the ability to pioneer a multi-model transportation system for our state, and to reinvent the way in which the country views public transportation. Having an efficient public transportation system is a major step in alleviating poverty and wealth inequality and also benefits our environment and alleviates congestion on our roads.

I have worked with our New Canaan CGA Delegation to maintain and support the continuation of the MTA line through New Canaan and now aim to increase the frequency of service in and out of New Canaan. In doing so, we have proposed a passing track in the New Canaan line, which will allow trains to arrive and depart more than one time an hour to connect to the main New Haven line.

Furthermore, not only do train lines play an important role in the economic enhancement of a region, but provide environmental and health benefits as well. Trains and other forms of electric transportation help eliminate pollutants created by automobiles. I have also been a major proponent in modernizing the current inconsistent cellular network in the region. Implementing a 5G network will improve cellular connection in areas where previously cell signal was erratic.  I have supported the partnership with AT&T to get the New Haven line connected to better service.

I have also been advocating for the reconfiguration of Route 7 and the Merritt Parkway interchange to facilitate the movement of traffic and reduce the amount of transfers on local roads.

environmental Justice

Global climate change is the greatest existential threat to our future. I’m so proud to be endorsed by groups like the Sierra Club because I strongly support conservation and preservation efforts in our community. Green space, parks, and beaches are all fundamental parts of life in Connecticut.

I’ve supported bills that revamp and expand recycling and ban potentially harmful chemicals that could contaminate our water supplies. I also endorse common sense ways to reduce our carbon footprint through improvements in public transportation, greater investment in electric vehicle technologies, and smarter, stricter building codes so we can move to better, sustainable architecture.

We can support our environment AND support industry here in Connecticut. If re-elected I promise to help protect our planet - and community - for generations to come.

gun reform

As a Gun Sense and CAGV endorsed Candidate, I have fought for common sense gun reform since day one. This includes being a strong proponent of safe storage, simple practices for gun owners that can save the lives of unknowing children. I also have fought for common sense gun reform by supporting the ban of “ghost guns”, or homemade guns, often assembled using parts created by 3D printers and, therefore, untraceable by the government.

Connecticut has some of the strongest gun control laws in our country, but these are just a first step in a long line of closing loopholes. We must continue this work by regulations like implementing restrictions on who can own guns, and not allowing convicted stalkers to have the ability to legally have guns.

Reproductive & Women's rights

I know firsthand the importance of women's rights and healthcare rights, and will continue fighting for reproductive rights, especially at a time when reproductive health care is under siege. I fully support Planned Parenthood and other family planning clinics providing access to sexual and reproductive healthcare, especially after the Supreme Court leaked opinion on overturning Roe v. Wade. We must ensure that our state codifies Roe v. Wade in our state constitution to protect a Woman's Right to Choose.

Likewise, I have been a defender of health equity within the state and has sponsored multiple bills that support women’s reproductive health, such as requiring public schools to provide free feminine hygiene products to students

Furthermore, deceptive advertising by fake clinics is extremely detrimental to the integrity of our healthcare system and legislation should be passed to prohibit such practices. These misleading marketing tactics creates a distrust with citizens and reproductive wellness centers.

The United States has one of the highest maternal mortality rates of the developed world, and we must address this issue and expand access to healthcare to ensure mothers are prepared for childbirth. In the workplace, pregnant women and nursing mothers are susceptible to discrimination by their employers and protections must be put in place to end this.

liberty + Justice for all

Integral to all of my beliefs and the policy that informs them is my core understanding that every single person was born with unalienable rights, and is deserving of their life, their liberty, and the pursuit of their happiness. This is why I endeavor to be an ally and a champion of all people no matter who they are, or who they love, or what they believe in insofar as their beliefs do not harm others. Our nation is made better by each and every voice that is lifted and heard, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation, disability, religion, immigration status, or otherwise. It is not in spite of but because of our differences that we are a dynamic and powerful country.
